I am a professional and friendly proofreader and Education and Language Consultant. A linguist and fully qualified English language teacher, I have taught and managed English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Business English and General English programmes in Spain, Germany and the UK. I have also developed a range of workshops to help university staff to support their international students.

 

In the UK I have gained over a decade of management and teaching experience as a Principal Lecturer at Leeds Beckett University.

Proofreading

A specialist proofreader and proof-editor, I focus on the proofreading of academic books, journal articles, book chapters and conference presentations by both native and non-native speakers of English. The subject areas I cover include languages and linguistics, education, humanities and social sciences. I also proofread English as a Foreign Language, German and Spanish exams, as well as bibliographies in German, Spanish and English.

Workshops for students and university staff

My most popular interactive workshop for universities is: 'It's about so much more than just spelling!' Getting your doctoral thesis proofread – what does a proofreader do (and not do)? I also run workshops for university staff who work with research students.

Student employability skills development

As an assessor of students' presentation and job interview skills, I give detailed individual feedback to participants of assessment centre simulations in order to help them to be better prepared for the real-life job application process.

Having lived in Germany for one year and Spain for ten years and fully integrated into their cultures, I have first-hand experience of the excitement and practical challenges involved in operating within diverse cultures, and with diverse people. I worked as a translator, interpreter and English as a Foreign Language teacher before running a language school in Madrid. Through my work at Leeds Beckett University, I have also worked for shorter periods of time in other countries, including China, Japan and Cuba.  

 

In my free time I am a keen walker and I enjoy playing the electronic organ.
