Workshops for International/EU Students

CV writing for jobs in the UK

Are you planning to work in the UK? Do you need to write a CV in English? Not sure how to express your qualifications gained overseas in a way which a British employer would understand?

This one-to-one or small group workshop takes you through the CV writing process. We will look at all the sections which typically are, and nowadays are not, included in a CV when applying for a job in the UK. During the session you will start to plan your CV or update your current one. I will also give you email feedback on your updated CV, if you send me it after the session.

Job interview preparation

As a non-native speaker of English job interviews can be challenging, as you need to use the right language at the same time as answering the questions appropriately. This one-to-one session or interactive small group workshop helps you to prepare for job interviews in English by, for example, anticipating some of the questions and considering the best language to use to answer them accurately and concisely.

English for job applications

Are you planning to work in the UK or for a multinational comapny in the UK or overseas?

In this interactive workshop you will gain the English language required to write a clear and concise CVs, cover letters, emails to employers and job applications and to express yourself clearly in a job interview.  The practical exercises will help you to gain confidence in your ability to promote your knowledge and skills to potential employers. You will receive individual feedback on your CV and on a practice job interview.

Dissertation Writing

Do you need to write a dissertation for your degree or masters?

This practical workshop will take you through the structure of a dissertation and provide tips to help you through the dissertation process from choosing your topic to carrying out the reading and research through to drafting and proofreading the chapters and other sections. We will also consider the role of your dissertation supervisor.

The international student journey – preparing for and adapting to life and study in the UK

This interactive workshop takes you through the international or EU student’s experience of studying in the UK, including the natural experience and effects of culture shock. It covers your study journey from the pre-arrival stage to the impact of arrival and to starting studying in the UK. You will also gain practical tips to help you to adapt to living and studying here, so that you can more easily focus on meeting your course requirements and enjoying your life in the UK.

Why do employers like people who can speak another language?

As an international/EU student you probably speak more than one language. Many UK businesses feel that their international business and export growth are limited because of a lack of language skills. This interactive workshop will highlight all the qualities and skills which speakers of more than one language can offer in the workplace. You have so much more to offer an employer than your language skills. A little knowledge of another language can go a long way.

The Characteristics of the Good Language Learner

Do good language learners have certain characteristics in common? If so, which? How might knowledge about such characteristics help us to become better language learners?

Based on my own and others’ experience and strategies as a language learner this interactive workshop offers practical tips to help you to learn another language as quickly, easily and efficiently as possible. You may be surprised at how much difference a few language learning strategies can make to your ability to communicate in another language!
